Something very important to keep in mind when designing your barn is to build with the climate in mind.
Making an investment in new steel pipe fencing is not only an attractive, eye pleasing addition to your farm, ranch or suburban estate, it will add to the value of your property.
Just as there are different types of fences for different livestock, so there are different types of farm fencing for different types of cattle. Typically cattle are fenced with barbed wire, electrified wire (or tape), or a combination of both types of farm fences.
Wood Fence
Wood fencing
By far the most popular fencing material is wood. Wood provides an all around good value. There are several species of wood used in fencing; however, the two main types in Texas are white wood and western red cedar. Redwood, white cedar and incense cedar are also available. 
Various combinations of northern spruce, pine, and fir are referred to as white woods. In Texas southern yellow pine is the predominate white wood fence used. These woods have little resistance to rot and insects and when properly installed should last 5 to 10 years. White wood is a low cost yet attractive material that can be stained or sealed for longer life. Untreated it will darken within 2 years.
Western red cedar fence wood comes from the NW United States and Canada . It is mildly resistant to water and insects and should last 15 plus years. Staining and oil treatment can be done to extend life beyond the average. Although higher in cost Western red cedar provides a better value over the life of the fence.
Designs from the basic "stockade" to highly customized designs involving expert carpentry are possible using wood. The examples shown here are some of the more popular looks.
